Questions
How these numbers are worked out
Is income up to ₹12 lakh tax-free under the new regime?
For salaried employees, yes in most cases. After the ₹75,000 standard deduction, taxable income up to ₹12 lakh gets a rebate of up to ₹60,000, so a salary of up to ₹12.75 lakh pays no tax. Just above that, marginal relief limits the tax to the amount by which taxable income exceeds ₹12 lakh. Slabs: up to ₹4 lakh nil, ₹4–8 lakh 5%, ₹8–12 lakh 10%, ₹12–16 lakh 15%, ₹16–20 lakh 20%, ₹20–24 lakh 25%, above ₹24 lakh 30%, plus 4% health and education cess, and surcharge above ₹50 lakh.
What changed for PF in 2026?
The statutory wage ceiling went up from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 a month from 17 September 2026. The employee and employer each contribute 12% of PF wages. Of the employer's 12%, 8.33% of wages up to the ceiling goes to the pension scheme (EPS) and the rest to the EPF account. The employer also pays 0.5% EDLI and 0.5% admin charges.
How does the take-home calculator split my CTC?
It takes your annual CTC, removes the employer's PF and (if ticked) gratuity at 4.81% of basic, and treats the rest as gross pay. It then deducts employee PF, professional tax for your state, ESI if your gross is ₹21,000 a month or less, and TDS under the new regime. Real salary structures vary, so treat it as a close estimate.
How is gratuity calculated?
15 days of last drawn basic plus DA for every year of service, using a 26-day month: basic × 15 × years ÷ 26. Eligibility needs 5 full years (1 year for fixed-term employees under the Code on Social Security, 2020), except on death or disablement. For the amount, a part-year of more than six months counts as a full year. Up to ₹20 lakh is tax-free.
Who pays ESI?
Employees earning up to ₹21,000 a month (₹25,000 for persons with disability). The employee pays 0.75% and the employer 3.25% of wages, rounded up to the next rupee.
